Conviction of former BP engineer thrown out

The conviction of fifty-two-year-old former BP Plc engineer Kurt Mix was thrown out due to a juror’s misconduct during the critical decision process, although he may face an appeal, The Associated Press reported on June 17.

Mix was on trial for allegedly deleting texts about the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill caused by the explosion of the company’s Deepwater Horizon oil well. Mix’s conviction was thrown out by United States District Judge Stanwood Duval because a juror overheard statements in an elevator that may have influenced the decision of the jury.
