Florida legislator charged with managing funds for BP oil spill

As of Monday, December 12, Florida Representative Jay Trumbull, Jr. (Republican) was given the job of overseeing the select committee on the Triump Gulf Coast’s management of the $1.5 billion London-based oil giant British Petroleum settlement funds.

In a statement, Trumbull said, “I am honored to be entrusted with this responsibility, and I am excited about the opportunities these funds will provide to Bay County and all the communities affected by the BP oil spill. My [Florida] Panhandle colleagues in the House and Senate and I are committed to making improvements that will set the stage for long-term success. Investments in infrastructure and technology, tax reform, and educational improvements, should all be on the table.”
