Only four business loss claims paid by BP since involved of federal appeals court

The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ involvement in oil giant BP’s (formerly called British Petroleum) oil spill claims settlement has largely halted payments for business damage claims and losses.

Court-appointed settlement claims administrator Patrick Juneau was able to pay only four business loss claims in the two months since BP started challenging the government’s prescribed settlement amount of $7.8 billion signed by BP in spring 2012, now inflated to $9.2 billion.

Juneau has already paid more than $1.3 billion of the settlement amount to 5,000 businesses from April to September.
