Students commemorate BP oil spill with demonstration

One day after the four-year anniversary of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, around twenty black-clad University of California-Berkeley students staged a “human oil spill” demonstration. The students all laid down around a miniature oil rig model and held signs protesting fracking in California.

The protesters depicted the harmful effects of fracking by using their bodies as a symbolic representations of an oil spill.

The activity was sponsored by non-profit organizations Students Against Fracking and Fossil Free Cal. The group also staged a protest at the Sproul Plaza to ask Governor Jerry Brown to denounce fracking in California.
